Discover Tin Shed Tavern & Pizza

Walking into Tin Shed Tavern & Pizza feels like stepping into a neighborhood hangout where nobody’s in a rush and everybody knows the menu by heart. Tucked away at 12250 Zinran Ave, Savage, MN 55378, United States, this place has the kind of relaxed energy that comes from years of serving locals who come back again and again. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, sometimes grabbing a quick slice after work, other times settling in with friends for a long night of food and conversation, and the experience stays consistently solid.

The menu leans into comfort food without pretending to be anything it’s not. Pizza is the star, and it shows. The dough has that chewy-but-crispy balance that only comes from a well-managed kitchen process. According to food science research published by university culinary programs, fermentation time is one of the biggest factors in crust flavor, and you can taste that patience here. Their classic pepperoni is straightforward and satisfying, while specialty pies layer toppings in a way that never feels overloaded. I once watched the kitchen during a slower afternoon, and the staff followed a clear prep rhythm, stretching dough by hand and rotating pies carefully to keep bake times consistent.

Beyond pizza, the tavern side of the menu holds its own. Burgers, wings, and sandwiches come out hot and well-portioned, clearly designed for sharing. A server once explained how they batch their sauces daily to keep flavors fresh, which lines up with best practices recommended by professional organizations like the James Beard Foundation, emphasizing scratch preparation over shortcuts. That attention to process shows up in the final plate, especially in the wings, which manage to stay crisp without being greasy.

What really anchors this spot is the atmosphere. The dining room feels casual and welcoming, with a mix of families, regulars, and first-timers. On busy nights, the sound level rises, but it never tips into chaos. Reviews online often mention the friendly staff, and from personal experience, that’s accurate. On one visit, a bartender remembered my usual order weeks later, a small detail that builds trust and keeps people loyal. Customer experience studies from hospitality research groups consistently show that personal recognition increases repeat visits, and Tin Shed clearly understands that on a practical level.

The location itself is easy to access, especially for anyone in Savage or nearby communities. Parking is straightforward, and the building has that low-key, no-frills look that fits a neighborhood tavern. While it’s not trying to be a destination restaurant, it succeeds by being reliable. That reliability matters. According to the National Restaurant Association, consistency is one of the top factors diners cite when choosing where to eat regularly, and this place delivers on that front.

Food safety and cleanliness also deserve mention. The dining area and restrooms have always been clean during my visits, and staff follow visible hygiene routines. The CDC estimates that millions of Americans experience foodborne illness each year, often due to poor handling practices, so seeing gloves used properly and surfaces cleaned regularly adds another layer of confidence. Still, like any busy restaurant, peak hours can mean longer waits, and on rare occasions, a pizza might take a bit longer than expected. It’s worth acknowledging that no kitchen is immune to rush-hour pressure.

People often describe this tavern as local favorite, casual comfort food, and solid pizza spot, and those phrases fit because they come from lived experience rather than marketing. The menu is approachable, the service feels genuine, and the overall vibe encourages you to linger. Whether you’re checking out reviews before your first visit or you’re already a regular scanning the menu for something new, Tin Shed Tavern & Pizza offers a dependable, enjoyable dining experience rooted in simple food done right.

  • Another new find. We stopped for lunch at the Tin Shed. We ordered plain wings with ranch and blue cheese dressing. The wings were nice and crisp and juicy. We also ordered a thin crust pizza, half Aloha Pizza which came with Canadian bacon, bacon, and pineapple and the other half was the Big Meat Pizza which came with pepperoni, bacon, Italian sausage, Canadian bacon. We also added green olives to the big meat side, black olives to the aloha side, and covered it all with red onions. Great job in getting the pizza order correct. It was very tasty and very crisp just like we like it. We appreciated the attentiveness of our server.

  • 10/11/2025 Had another Tecmo Super Bowl tourney at Tim Shed and the place is amazing!! Everyone is so helpful and makes the experience a fun by all. I had people from all over the US for the tourney from far away as LA and Ohio to Iowa, WI, ND, and WI and everyone thought the service, the care, and the food were all amazing. Each year I am glad we have a place like this goes above and beyond to make it a fun day for me and my friends. 8/15/2022: Had another Tecmo Super Bowl this year and once again the staff and customer service was top notch. Ashley, Brie, and the rest of the staff helped make the experience amazing. They were very helpful with getting us drinks and food and very courteous to us. I would highly recommend have a birthday party, or event there for a good time. Once again I can't thank Brian the owner enough for allowing us to do this every year and will continually go there for dining as well. Thanks again! 8/12/2020: This place is the best! I have hosted two Tecmo Super Bowl Tournaments there and their hospitality and generosity is off the scale. Amy, the manager brings a home atmosphere to the place and even knew most of the players names by heart by the end. She continually went above and beyond to make sure everyone was taken care of. I couldn't have found a better place. Their pizza and sandwiches are great and they have a good drink selection. If you ever are in the Savage area stop by you won’t be disappointed.

  • I've driven past this place pretty much twice a week for the past six months and didn't realize it was there. I was looking for a place to bring my kids that would satisfy myself as well as my picky eaters - Tin Shed Tavern & Pizza came through! I had the All American Burger and the pizza looked good - looking forward to coming back and trying a few additional items!

  • We pass this restaurant often and we recently stopped for the first time. It's almost hidden, being behind/connected to a gas station on the offside of the highway. Came in during a weekday a little after 7pm, seeing a couple people in, enjoying the food and a game on the TV. The space is actually a good sized venue for large groups. Greeted right away by a friendly wait staff and suggested drinks, getting them within a few minutes. Ordered their tried and true Tin Shed Original Deluxe, along with loaded fries. Food came out hot. Pizza crust had a nice chew, along with the crispy crust. Cheese had a nice pull and ingredients went great together. Would order this pizza again for my family. The fries were over salted but it was okay; could do without the salt since it already has cheese and bacon. My first experience was fine and I would visit again to try other items.

  • Lauri, our server, was sweet and knowledgeable, the food was quick to come out and tasted great, and the atmosphere was fun and welcoming. The kids were disappointed by some broken coin machines, but I won’t knock them down for that! We’ll be back for sure.
